Overview of the free recorded webinar

The Polyvagal Theory

An introduction to Dr. Stephen Porges, a distinguished neuroscientist who developed the Polyvagal Theory in the 1990s. His groundbreaking work has significantly transformed our understanding of how the nervous system regulates stress and social behavior. The Polyvagal Theory explains how the autonomic nervous system, or ANS, regulates stress and social behavior through the vagus nerve.

The social engagement system

You will gain knowledge about The Ventral Vagal Complex. It is part of the Parasympathetic Nervous System and is crucial for social engagement and emotional regulation. It facilitates facial expressions, vocalizations, and other social behaviors, helping us form bonds and maintain relationships. It also promotes feelings of safety and calm, reducing stress and anxiety by encouraging social interactions and supportive behaviors.

Stress Responses in Different Contexts

You will observe and analyze some scenario-based case studies to understand stress responses in different contexts. Case Study 1: Confronting a Sudden Threat Scenario, and Case Study 2: Traffic Jam Frustration Scenario. Based on these two scenarios you could have a better view of how to understand and control anxiety.
